The Thanksgiving table may have already been cleared, but the season of giving is just getting started. The time for charity and goodwill continues with Giving Tuesday, a day where people band together to support non-profits and give them a much-needed financial boost. There’s no better way to celebrate than supporting these six Black-led nonprofit organizations working toward a brighter tomorrow for the community.
Free Root Operation
Free Root Operation is bringing peace to the streets of the Windy City one Black woman at a time. The organization is dedicated to combating the root causes of gun violence in the South and West Side communities of Chicago through innovative wellness and economic development initiatives. The nonprofit runs projects like The Bloom Cohort, a five-month program aiming to economically empower Black women and mothers. Supporters can contribute to the cause by donating on their website.
Oklahoma Cowboys Charitable Foundation
Oklahoma Cowboys Foundation is helping Black folk get back on the saddle. Their mission is simple: preserve and educate the public about the rich history of Black cowboys and cowgirls in the American Midwest and celebrate current Black equestrians dominating community rodeos. The Oklahoma-based organization hosts an annual youth summer camp to educate Black kids on equestrianism, agriculture and health. Supporters can get involved in the company’s mission by donating here.
Black Men Heal
Black Men Heal knows that work on the inside is just as important as on the outside. The organization focuses on making mental health resources and care accessible to Black men and making them more comfortable with going to therapy. The Pennsylvania-based organization offers telehealth services to connect Black men with Black therapists, including free group and individual therapy sessions. Supporters can help the healing continue by donating to the group here.
Black and Pink
Showing up for LGBTQ organizations isn’t just reserved for Pride month. Black and Pink is dedicated to aiding incarcerated LGBTQ individuals and those living with HIV/AIDS. The Nebraska-based organization has launched projects such as the Lydon House, which connects LGBTQ+ folks with vital resources like education, food and healthcare. Supporters can help keep these projects going by donating here.
United Negro College Fund (UNCF)
The United Negro College Fund is giving a helping hand to the aspiring Black scholars of America. The DC-based organization financially supports 37 HBCUs and annually awards over 12,000 student scholarships and internships. Those who want to support their mission to make higher education more Black can donate on their website.
Social Change Fund United
